Where can you park a car?
Barkly and Hopkins street bays are short. Inspectors are part of the local lore for a reason. Free-ish open lots on Raleigh, Albert and Paisley cap at two to four hours.
- Market deck: Irving Street, roughly 7am-9pm Monday to Saturday.
- Plaza / Coles: Albert Street, daily from about 5:30am, early-bird rates.
- Little Saigon: Utility Lane off Byron Street.
- VU Park campus: ticketed, useful for hospital and pool, not the market.
How good is the train?
Footscray Station is the reason renters accept the core. Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown lines, plus regional services. West Footscray Station is the correct stop for Whitten Oval. Middle Footscray is a different, quieter platform.
Tram 82 and buses 216, 220, 223, 402, 404 and 406 fill the gaps the train does not.
How should you walk at night?
Barkly and Hopkins are the spine: light, shopfronts, through traffic. Paisley and the mall are the streets people describe as exposed. Do not take the darker underpass to save three minutes.
